The 15 Essential Expense Categories
1. Advertising & Marketing
Website hosting, social media ads, business cards, client gifts, promotional materials. All deductible if primarily for business.
2. Car & Truck Expenses
Gas, repairs, insurance, parking, tolls. Track mileage OR actual expenses — pick one method and stick with it. Commuting to your regular office is NOT deductible.
3. Contract Labor
Freelancers you hire, virtual assistants, consultants, subcontractors. Payments over $600 require a 1099-NEC.
